You ALWAYS do this!!

Experimenting with new habits is key to progress. Find what works for you and keep going! Motivation will follow.

January 16, 2022

The first week in January is over. How did it go for you so far?

Maybe, you set yourself goals for the new year. If you are like me, then you can already sense that it’s going to be a challenge to keep it up.

My example: I am currently trying hard to maintain a new habit: daily journalling. I was about to fail on the 3rd of January (!!), when I had the idea to focus my journalling differently. Until then, I was staring at an empty page.

Here are the three questions I since answer every day, first thing in the morning:

1) What went WELL yesterday?2) What was DIFFICULT yesterday?3) What do I want to do DIFFERENTLY today based on 1+2?

What’s the result so far?

My motivation boost is real! The switch from open format to question-based format turned it around for me. And most importantly: I now look forward to it and I don’t have to set reminders. It comes natural. A clear signal that it’s a self-sustaining habit in the making.

Why do I share this with you? This is not meant to encourage you to journal, although it seems a good habit on its own for many. I also did not share this, because I think my questions are perfect. You might ask yourself very different things.

I am sharing this, to encourage you to EXPERIMENT on an ongoing basis and not give up until you find something that works for you, especially when it comes to maintaining good, regular habits.

I firmly believe that we all have the capacity to be profoundly surprised by ourselves.

Therefore, where in your life should YOU start an experiment now?

I wish you all momentum and progress on the goals that matter most!
