Reflecting on Personal Values Through Actions and Behaviors
The difference between espoused values and practiced values, highlighting how calendars and credit card bills reveal true priorities.
Real values aren’t what you declare—they’re what your behavior proves. The cleanest mirrors are your calendar and your credit card bill. If values are the compass, your habits are the vehicle and your goals are the map. Align them with small, visible moves.
Time audit (7 days): Track hourly, total by category. What does the pattern say you value?
Spending scan (30 days): Categorize expenses. Do dollars follow your stated priorities?
Pick 3 espoused values → assign 1 recurring behavior each:
Family → Wed dinner 6–8 pm, phones off
Health → 30-min morning walk
Learning → Fri 4–5 pm practice/reading
Budget to match: add a modest line item for each value (auto-transfer or envelope).
Weekly review: adjust next week’s calendar so time and money reflect the compass.
Don’t tell me your values—show me your week and your spend.
